Food Habits in Islam – Dietary Principles in Islam

Introduction

In Islam, food habits are governed by Islamic dietary laws, known as “Halal” and “Haram.” These guidelines are derived from the Quran and the Hadith (sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad). Observing these dietary rules is considered an important aspect of a Muslim’s lifestyle and a way to maintain spiritual purity and closeness to God.

The Holy Quran emphasizes on following Sunnah / Uswah-e-Hasanah of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) in every matter of life including food habits, dietary principles and eating etiquette:

لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِيْ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ اُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ

Translation: “Verily in the (beloved) Messenger of Allah you have the best example (to follow)”. (Al-Ahzab: 21)

 

Food Habits and Dietary Principles in Islam

The following food habits have been practised and approved by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him):

1. Always consume Halal food and drinks:

Islam strictley commands its followers to always consume Halal food and drinks as prescribed in the religion. Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran:

كُلُوْا مِنْ طَيِّبٰتِ مَا رَزَقْنٰكُمْ وَلَا تَطْغَوْا فِيْهِ

Translation: “Eat from the good things We have provided to you, and do not exceed the limits in it”. (Al-Taha: 81)

2. Keep Food and Drinks covered:

All eatables and drinks must be kept covered and not be left open to anything harmful like insects, flies, dust or vinomous animals like lizard etc. Doing this, is to keep the food safe and clean. If food is kept open for long time, it may be exposed to the said harmful elements.

3. Consume the Food and Drink in Light:

Islam encourages its followers to consume food or drink in light so that it remains visible. One should at least, see the food or drink before consuming, wheater or not there is anything harmful in it.

4. Ensure Cleanliness and Purity of the food:

Islam emphasizes ensuring cleanliness and purity, especially during meal times. Before eating, it is recommended to wash hands and, if possible, rinse or gargle the mouth. Likewise, if required, wash or clean the eatables before eating e.g. fruits, vegetables etc or remove their peels.

5. Eat with Three Fungers and Small Bites:

If eating with your hand, use three fingers. Always use small bites as it makes the digestion process easy. However, Islam does not disallow the use of eating utensils like spoons and forks.

6. Eat First:

If it’s time to pray by the time you set the table to eat, eat first.

7. Eat calmly and peacefully:

It is better to eat calmly and peacefully and don’t rush. However, remembering Allah Almighty or good talk is better than complete silence. Hazrat Huzaifah (رَضِیَ اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَنْہُ) narrates that the Holy Prophet (صَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّم) said:

إنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَيَسْتَحِلُّ الطَّعَامَ الَّذِيْ لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اسْمُ اللہ عَليْهِ

Translation: “Satan considers that food lawful for himself on which the Name of Allah is not mentioned. (Sahih Muslim)

8. Avoid eating your food if it’s piping hot:

Full hot food is of course, harmful to health and may burn the mouth as well. Therefore, it is advised to consume the food when it is not that much hot.

9. Avoid Wastage of Food:

Islam strictly discourages the wastage of food. If you accidentally drop the food, pick the food up, clean and eat it. Likewise, if eating food with fingers, at the end clean the fingers with your mouth so that food is not wasted even a little bit. It is a sign of a search for blessings in food.

10. Pray for the Host:

If invited by someone for a meal, make the following dua for your host has fed you:

اَللّٰهُمَّ أَطْعِمْ مَنْ أَطْعَمَنِي، وَاسْقِ مَنْ سَقَانِي

Translation: Ya Allah, feed the one who has fed me, and give drink to the one who has given me a drink. (Sahih Muslim)

11. Hastening to eat: when food is brought by the host. An unnecessary delay in starting the meal can create doubts in the host’s mind.

13. Do not eat and drink in silver and golden utensils as their use is prohibited in Islam.

14. Always eat when you feel an appetite. Along with the ways of eating, timing is also important to be considered.

15. Islam encourages avoiding extravagance in consuming food. Islam encourages a balanced and modest approach to eating. Extravagant or luxurious food choices that lead to wastefulness or excessive spending are discouraged.

16. Eating Less / Do not Eat to Your Full

Islam recommends that one should not eat to his full. He must leave some empty space in his stomach.

Hazrat Abdullah Ibn-e-Umar (May Allah Be Pleased With them) narrated that the Beloved Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said: 

إِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ يَأْكُلُ فِي مِعًى وَاحِدٍ، وَالْكَافِرَ يَأْكُلُ فِي سَبْعَةِ أَمْعَاءٍ

Translation: “Verily, the believer eats in one stomach whilst the kaafir (disbeliever) eats in seven.” (Muttafaq Alaihe Hadith)

An Interesting Story about Eating to Full

ایک بار ابلیس حضرت یحییٰ علیہ السلام کے سامنے آیا۔ تو آپ علیہ السلام نے اْس سے منہ پھیر لیا۔ وحی آئی: ’’اے یحییٰ اس سے سوال کرو وہ تم سے سچ کہے گا‘‘۔ چنانچہ حضرت یحییٰ علیہ السلام نے اس سے چند سوال کئے۔ ایک سوال اْن میں سے یہ تھا۔آپ علیہ السلام نے پوچھا ’’بتا تو کبھی مجھ پر بھی قادر ہوا ہے؟ ‘‘
ابلیس بولا’’ ہاں۔ ایک شب جب کہ تمہارا پیٹ کھانے سے بھرا ہوا تھا اور آپ اپنا ورد چھوڑ کر سو گئے تھے‘‘
حضرت یحییٰ علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: ’’اب کبھی پیٹ بھر کر نہیں کھاؤں گا‘‘۔ یہ سن کر ابلیس نے خود کو  ملامت کی اور بولا: ’’اب میں  بھی کسی کو نصیحت نہیں  کروں گا”۔

The Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said:

مَا مَلأَ آدَمِيٌّ وِعَاءً شَرًّا مِنْ بَطْنٍ حَسْبُ الآدَمِيِّ لُقَيْمَاتٌ يُقِمْنَ صُلْبَهُ فَإِنْ غَلَبَتِ الآدَمِيَّ نَفْسُهُ فَثُلُثٌ لِلطَّعَامِ وَثُلُثٌ لِلشَّرَابِ وَثُلُثٌ لِلنَّفَسِ

Translation: “A human being fills no worse vessel than his stomach. It is sufficient for a human being to eat a few mouthfuls to keep his spine straight. But if he must (fill it), then one-third of food, one-third for drink, and one-third for air”. (Sunan Ibn-e-Majah)

17. Eating Slowly and Chewing the Food Well

Eating slowly is recommended for health. Slow eating reduces the consumption of food, as it postpones much of the meal to a time when the absorption of nutrients begins to produce physiological signals of satiety.

Slow eating helps in chewing the food well. This results in the exercise of the jaws (mandibles) and the mixing of saliva with food. Hence, efficient digestion takes place because the food particles are cut into smaller pieces, not requiring as much churning in the stomach or intestine.

18. Moderation in Food Consuming

It is said that:

“Excess in everything is bad.”

According to a narration (Hadith Sharif):

خَیْرُ الْاُمُوْرِ أَوْسَطُهَا

Translation: Best of the things is their center (being moderate in them). (Sunan Darmi)

وَّكُلُوْا وَاشْرَبُوْا وَلَا تُسْرِفُوْا  ۚ اِنَّهٗ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُسْرِفِيْنَ

Translation: “And eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess”. (Al-Aaraf: 31)

Conclusion

These Islamic dietary recommendations are cherished by Muslims all over the world; and they are to be cherished by the Muslim generations to come. In 1952,a group of university students in Alexandria, Egypt, of varying weights went on a diet of only milk and dates, under medical supervision. There were no restrictions other than the type of food. While on the diet the subjects were involved in a camp which required physical work. Those who had an overweight problem from overeating were able to bring their appetites back to normal without losing the pleasure of eating food. Gradually the feeling of hunger became less frequent than formerly. After the experiment, 60% of the subjects with overweight problems were able to return to a normal diet without reverting to overeating. The underweight and normal weight subjects felt an increase in appetite; however, no weight was gained. (The increase in appetite may have been a result of the physical work). Furthermore, no cases of dizziness were recorded, which was associated with previous dieting attempts by some of the obese subjects. This was due to the fact that the blood sugar level was kept normal by the dates, although the general food intake was reduced.

تعارف و تمہید:

محترم قارئین! اس بات کی صداقت میں کوئی شک نہیں کہ خالقِ کائنات، مالکِ حقیقی  اللہ تعالیٰ اپنا پیغام کسی نہ کسی طریقے سے ہر جنّ و انس تک پہنچاتا ہے۔ بعض اوقات یہ پیغامِ حق کائنات کے طول و عرض میں پھیلی اللہ تعالیٰ کی بے شمار اور مختلف النوع نشانیوں کے ذریعے پہنچتا ہے اور بعض اوقات کائنات اور بالخصوص دنیا میں رونما ہونے والے مختلف واقعات و حادثات کے ذریعے پہنچتا ہے۔ ٹائیٹن آبدوز اور قرآن مجید کا آپس میں گہرا تعلق و ربط ہے۔ اللہ جلّ شانہٗ اس حوالے سے قرآن کریم میں ارشاد فرماتا ہے:

سَنُرِيْهِمْ اٰيٰتِنَا فِي الْاٰفَاقِ وَفِيْٓ اَنْفُسِهِمْ حَتّٰى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ اَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ ۭ اَوَلَمْ يَكْفِ بِرَبِّكَ اَنَّهٗ عَلٰي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيْدٌ

اردو ترجمہ:  “ہم دکھائیں گے انھیں اپنی نشانیاں آفاق (عالم) میں اور ان کے اپنے نفسوں میں تاکہ ان پر واضح ہوجائے کہ قرآن واقعی حق ہے ۔کیا یہ کافی نہیں کہ آپ کا رب ہر چیز پر گواہ ہے”۔ (سورۃ فصّلت:53)

English Translation: “Soon will We show them our Signs in the (furthest) regions (of the earth), and in their own souls, until it becomes manifest to them that this is the Truth. Is it not enough that thy Lord doth witness all things?”

ٹائیٹن آبدوز اور قرآن مجید:

اوشین گیٹ (OceanGate)2021ء سے ارب پتیوں کو سمندر کی تہہ میں 3300 میٹر نیچے ٹائی ٹینک کے ملبے کی سیر کرا رہی ہے۔ ٹائی ٹینک کا ملبہ 1985 میں دریافت ہوا اور اوشین گیٹ نے 2021ء سے دنیا بھر کے امراء کو اس کی سیر کرانی شروع کر دی۔

شہزادہ داؤد اور سلیمان داؤد 18 جون 2023ء کو ٹائیٹن میں سوار ہوئے اور آب دوز پانی میں اتر گئی۔ایک گھنٹہ 45 منٹ بعد آب دوز کا کنٹرول روم سے رابطہ ٹوٹ گیا، آج تک کی تحقیقات کے مطابق آب دوز پونے دو گھنٹے بعد Bathypelagic Zone میں دھماکے سے پھٹ گئی اور یہ زون 3 ہزار میٹر کی گہرائی میں ہے۔

ٹائیٹن آبدوز، جدید سائنسی تحقیقات اور قرآن مجید کی صداقت و حقانیت:

مذکورہ بالا واقعے کے بعد پوری دنیا کے میڈیا نے یہ خبر اٹھا لی۔ چنانچہ دنیا جہاں کے بحری ماہرین بھی سامنے آئے اور دنیا کو پہلی مرتبہ پتا چلا سمندر میں تہہ در تہہ بحریں waves ہوتی ہیں۔ ایک بحر کے بعد دوسری بحر اور دوسری کے بعد تیسری بحر آتی ہے اور یہ بحریں سمندر میں سناٹا اور اندھیرا کرتی چلی جاتی ہیں، سمندر میں دو گھنٹے گہرائی میں سفر کے بعد پانی میں اندھیرے کے ایسے گہرے بادل چھا جاتے ہیں جنھیں لفظوں میں بیان نہیں کیا جا سکتا، کیوں؟ کیوں کہ یہ اندھیرا دنیا کے کسی بھی مقام پر انسان کے تجربے میں نہیں آتا، بحری ماہرین اس اندھیرے کو پچ ڈارک نیس (Pitch Darkness) کہتے ہیں، یہ اندھیرا اتنا گہرا ہوتا ہے کہ انسان دوسرے ہاتھ کو ٹٹول نہیں سکتا۔

ہمیں یہ جاننے کے لیے سورۃ نور کی آیت نمبر چالیس پڑھنا پڑے گی، اللہ تعالیٰ نے اس آیت میں مڈنائٹ زون(Midnight Zone) اور پچ ڈارکنس (Pitch Darkness) کے بارے میں بتایا ہے۔  قرآن مجید میں ارشادِ باری تعالیٰ ہے:

اَوْ كَظُلُمٰتٍ فِيْ بَحْرٍ لُّـجِّيٍّ يَّغْشٰـىهُ مَوْجٌ مِّنْ فَوْقِهٖ مَوْجٌ مِّنْ فَوْقِهٖ سَحَابٌ ۭ ظُلُمٰتٌۢ بَعْضُهَا فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ ۭ اِذَآ اَخْرَجَ يَدَهٗ لَمْ يَكَدْ يَرٰىهَا  ۭ 

وَمَنْ لَّمْ يَجْعَلِ اللّٰهُ لَهٗ نُوْرًا فَمَا لَهٗ مِنْ نُّوْرٍ

اردو ترجمہ: “یا جیسے ایک گہرے سمندر میں اندھیرا ہو، موجوں کے اوپر موجیں اٹھ رہی ہوں، اوپرسے گہرے سیاہ بادل چھائے ہوئے ہوں، اوپر تلے بہت سے اندھیرے ہوں اور اگر کوئی اپنا ہاتھ نکالے تو وہ اس کو بھی نہ دیکھ پائے۔ اور  جس کے لیے اللہ تعالیٰ نور نہ بنائے تو اس کے لیے کہیں نور نہیں“۔ (سورۃ النور:40)

English Translation: “Or the darkness in a deep sea, covered by waves upon waves, topped by dark clouds. Darkness upon darkness! if one stretches out his hand، he can hardly see it. For any to whom Allah gives not light, there is no light.”

آپ یہ آیت دوبارہ پڑھیں اور اس کے بعد ٹائیٹن آب دوز کے سانحے پر ماہرین کی رائے بھی دوبارہ سنیں اور پھر اپنے آپ سے سوال کریں، آج سے چودہ سو سال پہلے جب انسان سمندر میں تین میٹر سے زیادہ گہرائی میں نہیں گیا تھا۔ اس وقت قرآن مجید میں کس نے ڈکلیئر کیا سمندر میں موجوں کے اوپر موجیں ہوتی ہیں اور یہ گہرے بادلوں کی طرح ہر چیز کو ڈھانپ لیتی ہیں اور یہ ایک ایسا اندھیرا تخلیق کر دیتی ہیں جس میں ایک ہاتھ دوسرے کو شناخت نہیں کر سکتا، یہ حقیقت 14 سو سال پہلے کس طرح معلوم ہوگئی؟ دنیا 1985 میں ٹائی ٹینک کا ملبہ تلاش کر پائی جب کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے 628عیسوی (چھ ہجری) میں بتا دیاتھا کہ ہم سمندر میں موج کے اوپر موج چلاتے ہیں، یہ موجیں گہرے بادل جیسی ہوتی ہیں اور یہ ایک ایسی پچ ڈارک نیس تخلیق کرتی ہیں جس میں بینائی جواب دے جاتی ہے اور ٹائیٹن اس پچ ڈارک نیس میں گم ہوئی یا تباہ ہوگئی۔

خلاصۂِ بحث/حاصلِ کلام:

کیا ٹائیٹن آب دوز کا ڈوبنا  محض اتفاق تھا؟ اس آیت کریمہ پر غور و خوض کیاجائے اور حال ہی میں سمندر کی گہرائیوں میں  ڈوبنے والی  ٹائیٹن آبدوز پر ہونے والی جدید سائنسی تحقیقات کو سامنے رکھا جائے تو یقیناً ایمان تازہ ہو جاتا ہے۔ہم مسلمانوں کو اللہ کا شکر ادا کرنا چاہیے کہ اس نے مجھے اپنے اس دینِ متین میں پیدا کیا جس نے دنیا کو 1400 سال پہلے پچ ڈارک نیس، موج کے اوپر موج اور پھر اندھیرے کے بادلوں کے بارے میں اطلاع دے دی تھی اور ساتھ یہ بھی فرما دیا تھا، اللہ جس کو روشنی نہ دے اسے کبھی روشنی نصیب نہیں ہوتی۔ شاید ٹائی ٹینک جہاز اور ٹائیٹن آبدوز ڈوبی ہی اس لیے ہو کہ اللہ تعالیٰ اپنے بندوں یا  اہلِ دنیا کو اپنی آیات کی طرف متوجہ کر کے اپنا پیغام ان تک پہنچانا چاہتا ہو۔ ھٰذا ما عندی والعلم عند اللہ  واللہ اعلم بالصواب

یہ بھی ہو سکتا ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ اس واقعے کے ذریعے اہلِ اسلام کو یہ پیغام دینا چاہتا ہو کہ تم لوگ بلاوجہ احساس کمتری کا شکار ہو اور اس احساس کمتری میں ان لوگوں کی طرف دیکھ رہے ہو جنھیں اللہ نے ایمان کی روشنی سے محروم رکھا ہوا ہے، تم ان لوگوں کی طرف نہ دیکھو اور صرف اورصرف اپنے رب کی طرف متوجہ ہو جاؤ، تمہارے حالات صرف وہی بدلے گا۔ یقیناً اللہ سب سے بڑھ کر مدد فرمانے والا ہے۔

فَاَقِيْمُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَاٰتُوا الزَّكٰوةَ وَاعْتَصِمُوْا بِاللّٰهِ ۭ هُوَ مَوْلٰىكُمْ ۚ فَنِعْمَ الْمَوْلٰى وَنِعْمَ النَّصِيْرُ

اردو ترجمہ: “صحیح صحیح ادا کیا کرو نماز اور دیا کرو زکوۃ اور مضبوط پکڑ لو اللہ تعالیٰ (کے دامنِ رحمت) کو وہی تمہارا کارساز ہے۔ پس وہ بہترین کارساز ہے اور بہترین مدد فرمانے والا ہے” ۔ (سورۃ الحج:78)

English Translation: “So establish regular Prayer, give regular Charity, and hold fast to Allah! He is your Protector – the Best to protect and the Best to help!”.

Introduction

قُلْ اَبِاللّٰهِ وَاٰيٰتِهٖ وَرَسُوْلِهٖ كُنْتُمْ تَسْتَهْزِءُوْنَ؀لَا تَعْتَذِرُوْا قَدْ كَفَرْتُمْ بَعْدَ اِيْمَانِكُمْ  ۭاِنْ نَّعْفُ عَنْ طَاۗىِٕفَةٍ مِّنْكُمْ نُعَذِّبْ طَاۗىِٕفَةًۢ  بِاَنَّهُمْ كَانُوْا مُجْرِمِيْنَ

Translation: Say: Were you mocking Allah, His Revelations and His Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him)? (Now) do not make excuses. You have certainly become disbelievers after (showing that) you believed. If We forgive a party of you, (even then) We shall torment the other party because they sinned (and mocked their Lord).

When Hazrat Musa (Moses) Alaihissalam invited Pharaoh of Egypt to believe in One God (Allah Only), he mocked God. He said: we have not seen any God on earth. So, now we will climb up into the heavens to see whether there is any God. While arguing with Hazrat Musa Alaihissalam, the pharaoh in an ironic and mocking tone, asked his minister Haman to build a lofty tower so that he could climb up and enter the heavens to look for Hazrat Musa’s God (Allah Almighty) there. Allah Almighty mentioned the same in the Holy Quran in the following Holy Words:

وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ يٰهَامٰنُ ابْنِ لِيْ صَرْحًا لَّعَلِّيْٓ اَبْلُغُ الْاَسْبَابَ؀اَسْبَابَ السَّمٰوٰتِ فَاَطَّلِعَ اِلٰٓى اِلٰهِ مُوْسٰى وَاِنِّىْ لَاَظُنُّهٗ كَاذِبًا   ۭ وَكَذٰلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِفِرْعَوْنَ سُوْۗءُ عَمَلِهٖ وَصُدَّ عَنِ السَّبِيْلِ ۭ وَمَا كَيْدُ فِرْعَوْنَ اِلَّا فِيْ تَبَابٍ

Translation: “Pharaoh said: “O Haman!   8. For the last 25 years of his life, he did not go anywhere without consulting the doctor.

Despite all measures mentioned above, he could not live for 150 years. Rather, his life was limited to 50 years only by the Owner and Controller of life and death (Allah Almighty). On 25th June 2009, his heartbeat stopped. At the time of his death, 12 doctors were present in his home but nobody could save him.

Challenging God for his 150 years long life, he lost to the challenge and died at 50 years only.

A 40-year-old man namely Krishna Pal of Uttar Pradesh (India) decided to mock and challenge God and die by his own will and timetable. Krishan Pal hailed from Narora town in Bulandshahr district. He ran a nursery. He decided to take his life into his own hands by killing himself on 12.12.12 on 12-12-12. He jumped from atop a water tank and fell about 80 feet to his death.

To keep his date with fate, the man, Krishna Pal, scaled the overhead water tank at Pratap Vihar in Ghaziabad, Delhi’s suburban town in Uttar Pradesh. Pal earlier wrote a 12-page note that he wished to determine the time of his death on his own, and would like to end his life 12 minutes after 12 p.m. on the 12th day of the 12th month of the year 2012.

He claimed that he would, by thus doing suicide, “challenge God” and take his life and death into his own hands, grabbing these “out of God’s hands”. Pal made elaborate arrangements to execute his plan.

Before scaling the water tank at Pratap Vihar within the police station limits of Vijay Nagar, he had stored bricks and stones to hurl down at people who might dissuade him from his resolve. He also carried a rope and photocopies of his 12-page note.

Krishan Pal reached the top of the water tank at 10 a.m. He tied the rope around his neck, causing alarm among people who saw him then. The police were informed by people. Despite police presence, Pal continued with his “programme”. He also threw down copies of the note he had written, mentioning how he had determined the time of his death, without “consulting God”.

When Pal was busy with his preparations, some people tried to reach the top of the water tank, but Pal hurled at them the bricks and stones he had carried with him. Meanwhile, police gathered at the site to persuade the man to climb down and desist from doing something fatal. Pal told the police officers:

He was challenging God, so who were they in comparison?”

Finding the pressure building on him to desist from suicide, Pal, however, wavered from his plan and jumped to his death at 11.05 a.m. He tried his level best to die with his own will and time but could not succeed and died at the time that was fixed by Allah Almighty.

Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran:

قُلِ اللّٰهُ يُحْيِيْكُمْ ثُمَّ يُمِيْتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يَجْمَعُكُمْ اِلٰى يَوْمِ الْقِيٰمَةِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيْهِ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ

Translation: “Say: Allah is the One Who gives you life and He is the One Who causes you to die. Then He will gather all of you towards the Day of Resurrection about which there is no doubt. But most people do not know.” (Al-Jathia:26)

اے اللہ! بے شک ہم تجھی سے مدد طلب کرتے ہیں اور تجھی سے بخشش مانگتے ہیں اورتجھ پر ایمان لاتے ہیں اور تجھی پر بھروسہ رکھتے ہیں اور تیری بہت اچھی ثناء کرتے ہیں اور ہم تیرا شکر ادا کرتے ہیں،تیری نافرمانی نہیں کرتے اور ہم الگ کرتے ہیں اور چھوڑ دیتے ہیں ان لوگوں کو جو تیری نافرمانی کرتے ہیں۔ اے اللہ! ہم صرف تیری ہی عبادت کرتے ہیں، تیرے ہی لئے نماز پڑھتے ہیں، سجدہ کرتے ہیں، تیری ہی طرف ہم دوڑتے اور تیری ہی خدمت میں حاضر ہوتے ہیں۔ ہم تیری رحمت کی امید کرتے ہیں اور تیرے عذاب سے ڈرتے ہیں۔ بے شک تیرا عذاب کفار (منکرین) کو لاحق ہونے والا ہے۔

English Translation

“Ya Allah, we seek Your assistance, and we seek Your forgiveness, and we believe in You, and we rely on You. We praise You in all goodness, and we thank You, and we do not deny You, and we cast aside and abandon those who disobey You. Ya Allah, You alone we worship, and to You alone we pray and prostrate. We strive and hasten towards You, and we hope for Your mercy and fear Your punishment. Indeed, Your punishment will surely overtake the disbelievers.”

اللہ پاک ہےاور سب تعریفیں اللہ ہی کے لیے ہیں اور اللہ کے سوا کوئی عبادت کے لائق نہیں اور اللہ سب سے بڑا ہے اور نہیں ہے گناہوں سے بچنے کی طاقت اور نیک کام کرنے کی قوت مگر اللہ کی طرف سے جو سب سے بلند اور سب سے زیادہ عظمت والا ہے۔

4 Kalma (Tawheed) - چوتھا (چہارم) کلمہ توحید

لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهٗ  لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَھُوَ حَیٌّ لَّا یَمُوْتُ اَبَدًا اَبَدًا ذُوْالْجَلَالِ وَالْاِکْرَامِ بِیَدِہِ الْخَیْرُ وَ هُوَ عَلٰی كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

English Translation

“There is none worthy of worship except Allah. He is alone and has no partner. To Him belongs the Kingdom and for Him is all praise. He gives life and causes death. And He is Alive, He is Eternal, Possesser of magesty and reverence. In His hand is all good and He has power over everything”۔

اردو ترجمہ

اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں۔ وہ اکیلا ہے۔ اس کا کوئی شریک نہیں۔ اسی کے لیے ہے بادشاہی اور اسی کے لیے ہے ساری تعریفیں۔ وہی زندہ کرتا ہے اور وہی موت دیتا ہے اور وہ زندہ ہے( ہمیشہ زندہ رہنے والا) ہے اس کو ہرگز کبھی بھی موت نہیں آئے گی۔ وہ بڑے جلال اور بزرگی والا ہے۔ اسی کے ہاتھ میں سب بھلائی ہے اور وہ ہر چیز پر قادر ہے۔

“I seek forgiveness from Allah, who is my Creator and Cherisher, from every sin I committed knowingly or unknowingly, secretly or openly. And I also seek His forgiveness for all sins which I am aware of or am not aware of. Certainly You (Ya Allah!), are the Best Knower of the hidden and the Best Concealer of mistakes and the Best Forgiver of sins. And there is no power and no strength except with Allah; the Highest, the Greatest.”

میں معافی مانگتا ہوں اللہ سے جو میرا پروردگار ہے ہر اس گناہ سے جو میں نے کیا جان بوجھ کر یا بھول کر، درپردہ یا کھلم کھلا اور میں توبہ کرتا ہوں اس کی بارگاہِ اقدس میں اس گناہ سے جو مجھے معلوم ہے اور اس گناہ سے جو مجھے معلوم نہیں۔ (اے اللہ!)بے شک تو غیبوں کا جاننے والا اور عیبوں کا چھپانے والا اور گناہوں کا بخشنے والا ہے اور نہیں ہے گناہوں سے بچنے کی طاقت اور نیک کام کرنے کی قوت مگر اللہ کی طرف سے جو سب سے بلند اور سب سے زیادہ عظمت والا ہے۔

“Ya Allah! I seek refuge in You from that I should ascribe or join any partner with You knowingly. And I seek Your forgiveness from that which I do not know. I repent from it (ignorance). I reject disbelief and joining partners with You and of falsehood and backbiting and (bad) innovation in religion and slander (tell-tales) and lewdness and blame and all other acts of disobedience. And I submit to Your will. I believe and I declare that there is none worthy of worship except Allah (and Hazrat) Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) is the (Beloved) Messenger of Allah.”

To understand the light year, keep in mind that light travels at a speed of 186,000 miles per second. It takes about eight minutes to travel 150 million kilometres from the sun to the Earth. If light travels at the same speed for one year, it is called a light year. The diameter of the Milky Way is one hundred thousand light years. While the distance from the centre of the galaxy to the sun is 26,000 light years.

Beyond that, our galaxy itself has no place in the universe. The Andromeda Galaxy is 2180000 light-years away from us. It is estimated that there are 300 to 400 billion stars in it. While there are billions of galaxies. There are millions of light years between them. All of them are not stationary, but rotating around their centre and also moving in space. Astronomers believe that the number of galaxies in the universe is around 125 billion. Scientists say that if we reach the end of this distance with our telescopes, we will still see the same view because the universe is constantly expanding.

Once upon a time during the early years of Islam, a foreigner arrived in a big Muslim city. He went to a central area and declared to the people, “I don’t believe in the existence of God. Bring your best debater so that I can defeat him and convince all of you!”

The people were annoyed and wanted to kick out this troublemaker. However, they knew the best way to defeat him would be through a debate, just as he had suggested. So they took the foreigner to their leader and shared his request.

The city’s leader announced that there would be a debate that night. The stranger who denied the existence of God would face the best Muslim debater in town, Imam Abu Hanifa. The king quickly sent a boy to invite Imam Abu Hanifa to the debate. The boy soon returned with confirmation, and everyone eagerly awaited the debate that night.

As the night approached, people gathered to witness the showdown. The debate was supposed to start after sunset, but Imam Abu Hanifa was late. Very late, everyone was waiting for him.

As time passed, the townspeople considered appointing a different debater so they wouldn’t appear scared. However, they decided to keep waiting because Imam Abu Hanifa was their best debater and worth waiting for.

Meanwhile, the foreigner kept complaining, “If your best debater can’t even keep his appointments, how can he win this debate? What kind of Muslim doesn’t keep his word? He must have gotten scared because he knows he was wrong and decided to run away!”

Hours went by, and just when people were about to leave, Imam Abu Hanifa arrived.

His opponent for the evening demanded, “Tell me, why are you so late? What caused you to miss our appointment? How could you keep all of us waiting for so long?!”

Imam Abu Hanifa asked, “I’m sorry… Will you forgive me if I tell you my excuse?”

“What is your excuse, then?” “I’m glad you asked. On my way from home to this hall, there is a large river. I needed a ferry to cross it, so I waited the entire evening for a boat, but none came.”

The foreigner was ready to argue and said, “If no ferry arrived the whole evening, then how did you get here now?” Imam Abu Hanifa continued, “I’m glad you asked. While waiting by the river, I suddenly witnessed a nearby tree falling down. It started chopping itself into logs, which then transformed into planks and nailed themselves together. This extraordinary boat appeared before me, and it seemed to beckon me to step on board.”

“I stood amazed by this miraculous boat and wondered how it could be possible. As soon as I boarded it, it swiftly carried me across the river to the city. There was no sailor on board, yet it navigated perfectly. After I arrived on the other side and stepped off, the entire boat vanished.”

“That’s the story of how I managed to cross the river.” At this point, the foreigner burst into laughter. He said, “I had heard that you, Imam Abu Hanifa, are the most brilliant, wise, and knowledgeable man among the Muslims. But today, you have shown us all that you are nothing like that!” Some of the crowd felt disappointed by this, while others still had faith.

Imam Abu Hanifa wanted to confirm, “So, you don’t believe that planks can chop themselves, nails can hammer themselves, sealant can pour itself, and a boat can steer itself without anyone doing it?”

“Of course not! I don’t believe a word of what you said!” exclaimed the debater. Then Imam Abu Hanifa concluded, “If you can’t accept that a simple boat cannot create and operate itself, how can you believe that the entire world and the universe: the sun, the moon, the earth, the seas, the animals, the plants – all came into existence by themselves and continue to function in a perfect manner until this day? After this logical answer by Imam Abu Hanifah, the atheist was answerless and had to admit and agree to the true belief in the “Existence of Allah”.

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْاِنْسَانَ مِنْ سُلٰـلَـةٍ مِّنْ طِيْنٍ؀ثُمَّ جَعَلْنٰهُ نُطْفَةً فِيْ قَرَارٍ مَّكِيْنٍ۝ثُمَّ خَلَقْنَا النُّطْفَةَ عَلَقَةً فَخَـلَقْنَا الْعَلَقَةَ مُضْغَةً فَخَـلَقْنَا الْمُضْغَةَ عِظٰمًا فَكَسَوْنَا الْعِظٰمَ لَحْــمًا ۤ ثُمَّ اَنْشَاْنٰهُ خَلْقًا اٰخَرَ ۭفَتَبٰرَكَ اللّٰهُ اَحْسَنُ الْخٰلِقِيْنَ

“And We have certainly created man from clay, then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging. Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators.” (Al-Mominoon:12-14)

اَللّٰهُ الَّذِيْ يُرْسِلُ الرِّيٰحَ فَتُثِيْرُ سَحَابًا فَيَبْسُطُهٗ فِي السَّمَاۗءِ كَيْفَ يَشَاۗءُ وَيَجْعَلُهٗ كِسَفًا فَتَرَى الْوَدْقَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ خِلٰلِهٖ ۚ فَاِذَآ اَصَابَ بِهٖ مَنْ يَّشَاۗءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهٖٓ اِذَا هُمْ يَسْتَبْشِرُوْنَ

“It is Allah who sends the winds, and they stir the clouds and spread them in the sky however He wills and then makes them fragments so you see the rain emerge from within them. And when He causes it to fall upon whom He wills of His servants, immediately they rejoice.” (Al-Room:48)

“He is the one who subjected the heaven and the earth for you as a provision from Him. And He has caused rivers to flow among you and has made for you ships to sail through the sea by His command. And He has made for you the rivers and made for you the sun and the moon, constant [in their courses], and has made for you the night and the day as a means of livelihood.” (Al-Ibrahim:32-33)
